A man donated a ballistic vest to Wauconda’s police canine in honor of his brother, who was a veteran, that died on Veteran’s Day a year ago, officials said.
The Wauconda Police Department saidย Chris Toussaint donated a ballistic vest to Wauconda Police Canine Skye on Monday.
Toussaint made the donation in honor of his brother, Eugene P. Toussaint, Jr.
Chris Toussaint said he believed the best way to honor his brother was to provide a ballistic vest to help protect Skye.
Eugene Toussaint, Jr. had a love for German Shepherds, served in the United States Navy and was a Wauconda resident.
He served from 1968-1972 and was stationed in Vietnam for two years.
Eugene Toussaint, Jr. died on Veteran’s Day on November 11, 2023, at his Wauconda home at age 74.
The Wauconda Police Department said they are proud to honor the memory of Eugene P. Toussaint, Jr.
“Thank you for your service and dedication to our community, Eugene,” Wauconda Police Chief David Wermes said.
“This type of generosity, stems directly from the outstanding Police/Community relationship the Wauconda Police Department has with our community,” Wermes said.
