Firefighters rescued a resident’s dog after a cooking accident led to a fire damaging an apartment at a mixed-use building near Lake Bluff Saturday evening.

The Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 5:39 p.m. Saturday to 215 North Waukegan Road in unincorporated Lake Bluff for a report of a fire alarm.

Lake Forest Fire Department Battalion Chief Erik Kositzki said crews were responding to the alarm when they were informed flames were visible from the windows of the building.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke conditions in one of the second-floor apartments of the two-story mixed occupancy building.

Lake Forest and Libertyville fire crews teamed up to perform a primary search and extinguish the fire, Kositzki said.

There were no injuries reported to any occupants or firefighters during the incident, Kositzki said.

The unit where the fire originated was deemed uninhabitable. The other units remain habitable.
