A woman survived after she was struck by a train near a train station in Lake Forest, causing delays on Metra’s Milwaukee District North line Monday morning, officials said.

The Lake Forest Police Department, Metra Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 8:42 a.m. Monday to the Lake Forest West Side Metra Station, 911 South Telegraph Road.

Lake Forest Fire Department Division Chief Mike Gallo said a female victim was injured by a train.

The victim was “glanced” by the train and not directly struck, Gallo said.

She was not trapped underneath and bystanders had assisted her on the platform before fire crews arrived.

The woman had suffered a head laceration and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Gallo said the woman was disoriented but conscious and breathing.

Metra spokesperson Meg Reile said Train 2107, which was due at the station at 8:34 a.m., struck the female victim.

The woman, whose age was unknown, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Reile said.

Reile said Train 2107 was outbound at the time and likely did not have many passengers on it.

Those passengers were accommodated on Train 2109, which was the train behind Train 2107.

One of the train tracks was reopened an hour after the incident, Reile said.

The train involved was delayed more than an hour and other trains experienced delays of 10-40 minutes.

Officials said they did not know whether the incident was intentional or accidental.
