A Lake County sheriff’s canine is being credited with using his skills to locate a teenage boy who went missing in Beach Park in the middle of the night.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Canine Odin was called into action in Beach Park to help locate a missing child.

The teenager left home on foot around 3 a.m. Wednesday and the family was concerned for his safety.

Odin began tracking and located the juvenile close to his home after a brief search.

The sheriff’s office said Odin used his “keen nose and expert tracking skills” to find the juvenile.

“Thanks to Odin and his handler, the boy was returned safely to his family. Great job, K9 Odin!” the sheriff’s office said.

In September, Odin was called to unincorporated Spring Grove to track down a dangerous suspect who had battered a victim.

The attack occurred in front of the woman’s children and the suspect fled on foot, sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s officials said Odin followed the scent of the offender through multiple yards and onto railroad tracks.

The canine found the man hiding nearby and he was taken into custody and charged.
