The coroner has released the identity of a 65-year-old man who died after being ejected from his car following a two-vehicle crash that left a second driver seriously injured in Zion.

The Zion Fire Department and Zion Police Department responded around 10:03 p.m. Tuesday to 9th Street and Green Bay Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Zion Police Lt. Derek Zaloudek said a two-vehicle crash occurred in the intersection.

A gray 2023 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling westbound on 9th Street.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the Chevrolet driver as Kenneth Fike, 65, of Beach Park.

Zaloudek said the Chevrolet entered the intersection at Green Bay Road without yielding to oncoming traffic at the stop sign.

The Chevrolet collided with a white 2024 Cadillac XT4, driven by a 60-year-old man.

The Cadillac had been traveling southbound on Green Bay Road at the time.

Zaloudek said Fike was ejected from his Chevrolet and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Cadillac was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Police shut down a portion of Green Bay Road and part of 9th Street for several hours into early Wednesday morning for the crash investigation.

Banek said an autopsy performed Wednesday on Fike showed he died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Zion Police Department.
