A man in his late 60s was critically injured after he fell off of a ladder while hanging Christmas lights at a home in Richmond Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The Richmond Township Fire Protection District responded around 3:11 p.m. Wednesday to the 5100 block of Wood Duck Lane in Richmond for a report of a fall victim.

Emergency crews responding to the scene requested the assistance of a medical helicopter and Mercyhealth MD-1 to respond.

Fire officials said a 69-year-old man had fallen approximately 10 feet onto asphalt.

The man was hanging Christmas lights using a ladder when he fell onto the driveway.

Initial reports indicated the victim was unconscious but breathing, fire officials said.

Nearby medical helicopters were not available to respond due to the local weather conditions.

Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to a local Level 2 trauma hospital.

Fire officials said the man was in critical but stable condition upon arriving at the hospital.
