A man was ejected and left seriously injured and a child was also injured after a car crashed into a tree and several people fled the scene in Mundelein, police said.
The Mundelein Police Department and Mundelein Fire Department responded around 10:52 p.m. Friday to the 500 block of Bonniebrook Avenue.
Mundelein Chief of Police Jason Seeley said officers received reports of a vehicle crash where a vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and an occupant had been ejected.
Officers arrived and located a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl injured.
The 20-year-old man, who was ejected from the car, suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries, Seeley said.
The juvenile female suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Both victims were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
Seeley said officers learned that the driver of the vehicle involved and two passengers fled the scene prior to police arriving.
The immediate area was searched but none of the subjects were located.
A preliminary investigation revealed the identities of the driver and the other two passengers, Seeley said.
Officers were able to locate the two passengers, both juveniles, and determined they had not suffered any injuries.
The two juveniles were able to provide additional details about the crash and verify the driver was the only person unaccounted for, Seeley said.
The driver, identified as Miguel A. Dominguez, 19, of Mundelein, was located during an unrelated 911 call for police service.
He was uninjured and placed under arrest. Dominguez was charged with failure to report a crash with injury, leaving the scene of a crash, failing to give notice of a crash, driving on a suspended license, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, failure to notify of damage to an unattended vehicle and improper overtaking or driving off the roadway.
Dominguez was also charged with felony domestic battery for the incident police responded to where they located him following the crash.
Dominguez was transported to the Lake County Courthouse for a First Appearance Court hearing and remanded to the Lake County Jail.
