Prosecutors say a self-admitted drug dealer sexually assaulted a woman, who he was previously dating, at gunpoint at his home in Zion.
Timmy Skillom, 61, of Zion, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault threatening life, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated unlawful restraint, domestic battery enhanced and possession of cannabis over 100 grams.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich said a woman went to the Zion Police Department on November 15.
She made a report that she had just been sexually assaulted at gunpoint by Skillom, who is her ex-boyfriend.
The incident allegedly happened around 1 p.m. at a home where Skillom resides in Zion.
The victim told investigators that she went to Skillom’s home to lend him previously agreed money.
Vukovich said Skillom asked the woman if their relationship was actually over and she said it was.
Skillom tried kissing the victim but the woman told him to stop, which he did not, Vukovich said.
Vukovich said Skillom pulled the woman toward a bedroom and the victim tried to pull away from him.
He forcefully pulled the victim, who told Skillom she was not going to have sex with him, prompting him to respond, “Yes you are,” according to Vukovich.
Vukovich said Skillom threw the woman down onto a bed and pinned her to the bed.
The victim continued resisting and Skillom allegedly said, “Play nice so we can be done.”
Skillom forcefully removed the victim’s clothing, Vukovich said.
Vukovich said the victim was able to stand up at one point but Skillom retrieved a handgun and told the woman he was “not letting her go easy.”
Skillom grabbed the victim and sexually assaulted her, Vukovich said.
Officers took him into custody later that evening and the victim went to the hospital to be examined.
Skillom told investigators he did not have sexual contact with the woman but then later said he did and it was consensual.
A search warrant was executed on Skillom’s residence and two guns were recovered, one of which was consistent with the gun the victim described, Vukovich said.
500 grams of cannabis and pills were also found. Skillom admitted he sells cannabis, prosecutors said.
A public defender for Skillom said the incident was consensual and that the guns found belonged to Skillom’s current girlfriend.
Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim granted a petition filed by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to detain Skillom in the Lake County Jail pending trial.
Nerheim noted that the victim tried to escape multiple times during the assault, a weapon was involved and that Skillom hid inside his house when police arrived.
The judge also noted that Skillom has prior felony convictions and domestic violence convictions, as well as prior violations of court orders.
Skillom is scheduled to appear in court again on December 12 for a preliminary hearing.
