Two children were among four people hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash that left one car rolled over with significant damage near Woodstock on Thanksgiving Day.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:23 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Charles Road and North Queen Anne Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.
Crews arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles with individuals on the ground nearby, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said.
The crash was located just west of the intersection.
One vehicle, which had rolled over, sustained significant damage. The second damaged vehicle was found upright, Vucha said.
All occupants had self-extricated from their vehicles prior to the arrival of emergency crews.
Vucha said a LifeNet helicopter was initially placed on standby but was ultimately not needed as the injuries were not deemed serious.
Four occupants of the rolled-over vehicle, including two adults and two children, were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with minor injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle refused medical care at the scene.
Charles Road was shut down in both directions for nearly an hour.
Firefighters assisted with extensive debris removal from the roadway, which spanned approximately 100 feet, Vucha said.
“Considering all the circumstances surrounding the crash, this was the best possible outcome. Itโs reassuring to know that both children were properly secured in their seats, which undoubtedly contributed to their safety,” Vucha said.
The McHenry County Sheriffโs Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
