Two firefighters were sent to the hospital with injuries while battling a fire that damaged a barn near Crystal Lake and prompted the response of more than a dozen departments.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 7:54 p.m. Saturday to the 5700 block of Haligus Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department Deputy Chief Rick Kaiser said a person passing by called 911 to report the fire.
Fire crews arrived on the scene within six minutes to find flames and smoke showing from a single-story pole barn.
Kaiser said crews did not enter the building due to the construction of the structure and the volume of fire.
The fire occurred in an area where there are limited fire hydrants and fire department tender trucks were used to bring water to the scene.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital, Kaiser said. They have since been released.
The barn sustained fire, heat, smoke and water damage. No adjacent structures received damage.
Kaiser said the power and gas were disconnected to the building at the time of the fire.
No residents of the nearby home were injured and there were no animals inside the barn.
The estimated damage to the property was $150,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Kaiser said.
The Algonquin, Barrington, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda Rural, West Dundee, Wonder Lake, Wauconda and Woodstock fire departments assisted.
The McHenry County Rehab Canteen also responded.
