The National Weather Service says gusty snow showers are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, followed by a sharp cold front, that could impact commuters.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Tuesday afternoon that scattered gusty snow showers and falling temperatures are expected Wednesday.

The inclement weather is expected in the afternoon and evening behind a sharp cold front. Timing is expected to be 2-9 p.m.

The NWS said rapid changes in visibility are likely in the snow showers, along with locally slippery travel conditions due to quick snow accumulations.

Winds will be strong and gusty from the west-northwest. Gusts will be as high as 45 mph at times, the NWS said.

Snow showers will persist into Wednesday evening before ending from west to east late.

Snow accumulations will likely be less than an inch but snow and slush could cover roads.

Forecasters say motorists should be alert for slick roads and brief periods of low visibility if traveling Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The storm system will be followed by temperatures plummeting overnight with below-zero wind chills expected, the NWS said.
