Crews on Thursday reopened a busy stretch of Sheridan Road in Beach Park following a nearly 10-month full closure for a culvert replacement and other upgrades.

The Illinois Department of Transportation oversaw the culvert replacement project, which occurred on Sheridan Road over Bull Creek in Beach Park.

The project began on February 12 and required the closure of Sheridan Road between Wadsworth Road and Oak Forest Drive.

A detour was put in place to direct motorists to 21st Street, Green Bay Road and York House Road.

Access to residences and businesses within the construction limits was maintained throughout construction.

The road closure resulted in an influx of traffic in the neighborhood near the roadwork.

The $7.8 million project, which involved replacing the existing culvert with a triple box culvert, was projected to be completed by the end of the year.

The project also featured the installation of new storm sewers and ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps on both sides of Sheridan Road.

The project was completed on time and Sheridan Road was reopened on Thursday.
