Two women from Ohio were arrested after police found a handgun and a stun gun while responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint involving unpermitted solicitors in Buffalo Grove.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of Thornton Lane for a report of a suspicious vehicle.
Officers found four subjects in the vehicle and detected a strong odor of cannabis, police officials said.
Officers searched the car and discovered a 9mm Glock handgun, a magazine containing 10 rounds and a stun gun pen, along with improperly sealed cannabis and a bottle of alcohol.
The driver, Destiny Gaal, 19, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon and issued a local ordinance citation for soliciting without a permit.
One of the passengers, Marie Norfleet, 18, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm under the age of 21.
Norfleet was also issued local ordinance citations for soliciting without a permit, possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of cannabis.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charges against Gaal and Norfleet.
Gaal and Norfleet are both set to appear in court on Monday.
Police officials said the other two vehicle occupants, a 20-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from Ohio, were issued local ordinance citations for soliciting without a permit.
One of them also received an additional local ordinance citation for possession of cannabis.
“This is a great example of residents working with our Police Department to keep our community safe,” said Buffalo Grove Police Chief Brian Budds. “A community member saw something unusual, and called to report it.”
