A suspect was sent to the hospital after he was subdued following a knife attack on a victim at a motel near Libertyville Friday evening, sheriff’s officials said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:05 p.m. Friday to Doe’s Motel, 31228 North Route 45 in unincorporated Libertyville following a report of a fight and a stabbing.
Deputies located a 31-year-old man, a resident of the motel, who sustained minor cut injuries, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Javier Moran, 54, also a resident of the motel, had been drinking alcohol in a room with two acquaintances.
Moran became argumentative and threatened one of the men during the gathering, Covelli said.
He was asked to leave the room and initially complied before returning while allegedly armed with a knife.
Covelli said Moran attempted to stab the 31-year-old victim, who deflected the knife but suffered minor hand injuries in the process.
Moran engaged in a physical altercation but was subdued by the victim and another person in the room, Covelli said.
The victim declined medical treatment. Moran requested to be transported to the hospital due to injuries suffered while being subdued, Covelli said.
Prosecutors said the victim disarmed Moran after being stabbed, struck Moran in the face and dragged him outside of the room before calling 911.
Moran was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released into custody.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon against Moran.
A petition to detain Moran pending trial was filed by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Lake County Judge Jacquelyn Melius ordered Moran held in custody until a detention hearing, which is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
