Firefighters spent two hours working to extinguish a fast-moving brush fire, driven by winds, that damaged approximately 10 acres in Lake Barrington Monday afternoon.
The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 1:03 p.m. Monday to a report of a brush fire at the Great Water Dock Marsh in Lake Barrington.
Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Chief Scott Motisi said fire department personnel were the ones to discover the fire.
They noticed a large plume of smoke east of the fire district’s headquarters near 27W912 West Industrial Avenue.
A command post was established consisting of representatives from the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.
Fire crews arrived on the scene to find approximately two acres of brush already burned, Motisi said.
The incident was upgraded to have multiple fire engine companies and brush units respond.
Firefighters used a combination fire attack that included containment strategies and direct attacks to extinguish the fire, Motisi said.
The fire was declared under control in approximately two hours.
Motisi said persistent sustained winds were a factor causing the fire to continue spreading north over multiple acres.
All homes, buildings and personal property were protected throughout the incident.
A total of approximately 10 acres were burned, Motisi said.
The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District was assisted by the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department, Barrington Fire Department and Inverness Fire Protection District.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
