Two children were among four transported to the hospital after a car veered off of Interstate 94 near Bannockburn and rolled over multiple times, authorities said.
The Illinois State Police and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to Interstate 94 at the 23 mile marker in Bannockburn for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Joe Bass said crews arrived to find a single-vehicle rollover crash on northbound Interstate 94 near Duffy Lane.
The passenger car had been traveling in the left lane of the interstate when it suddenly veered right and off of the roadway, according to witnesses.
Bass said the car rolled over four or five times and came to rest on its roof approximately 20 feet down into the ditch.
Passerbys stopped and called 911. They assisted two children from the car.
Firefighters arrived and assisted two adults from the car who needed help getting up the 45-degree hill, Bass said.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service responded with a heavy-duty wrecker that hooked the car and pulled it out of the ditch, placing it onto a flatbed tow truck.
The two children and two adults were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment, Bass said. Their injuries were not serious.
The far right lane of the interstate was shut down. Fire crews remained on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.
The Northbrook and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods fire departments assisted.
