A woman has been charged with allegedly starting an arson fire inside a PetSmart store in Crystal Lake and causing damage to the building.
The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 9:20 a.m. on October 10 to PetSmart, 4465 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
Firefighters arrived and found a fire that had damaged items in a restroom inside the store.
The fire was out and caused damage that did not exceed $500.
Kaydence A. White, 20, of Crystal Lake, was charged with arson over $150, a Class 2 felony, and criminal damage to property by fire, a Class A misdemeanor.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges White recklessly and intentionally started the fire.
Investigators obtained a warrant for White last Wednesday charging her.
She was arrested the next day and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain her.
McHenry County Judge Carl Metz denied the petition and released White from custody pending trial.
Metz ordered White to have no contact with the PetSmart in Crystal Lake or any employees of the store.
She was also ordered not to leave the state without court permission and to obtain a psychological evaluation within 21 days.
White is set to appear in court again on January 10 for a status of the psychological evaluation.
