A tow truck driver was charged after police say he caused a crash with a sedan that left another driver entrapped and injured in Barrington.
The Barrington Police Department, Barrington Fire Department, Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department and Inverness Fire Protection District responded around 12:53 p.m. Sunday to Route 14 and East Main Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived and reported a two-vehicle crash with one person trapped possibly requiring advanced life support care.
Barrington Police Chief David Daigle said the crash involved a tow truck and a 2015 Ford Taurus.
The tow truck, which had AAA decals on it, was attempting to travel northbound on Northwest Highway from the Shell gas station.
The Ford was traveling southbound on Northwest Highway entering the turn lane to turn left onto eastbound Main Street, Daigle said.
The tow truck struck the passenger side quarter panel of the Ford.
Daigle said the driver of the Ford, a 55-year-old Elgin man, was transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the tow truck, Mohamad I Maali II, 41, of Burbank, was cited for not having the proper classification to operate a tow truck and failing to yield when turning left.
