No charges were filed after a student at a middle school in Lake in the Hills searched on a school computer about “how to shoot up a school.”
The Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 4:40 p.m. on November 21 to Marlowe Middle School, 9625 Haligus Road.
A call was received by dispatch from Principal Dana Halper reporting a student had made concerning searches on their school laptop, according to a police report obtained this week through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
The school resource officer spoke with Halper, who advised the parents of the student were informed of the situation.
The report said the male juvenile had searched “How to shoot up a school?” Officers later spoke with the student and parents.
The following morning, Assistant Principal Jillian Pearce told officers that the student would be called to the office as soon as he arrived at the school.
The report said the assistant principal and a social worker conducted a safety risk assessment which indicated he was not a risk.
The student was given school consequences for his inappropriate search history, the report said.
Police did not arrest or charge the child and closed the case.
