Authorities say an employee was transported to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the leg while handling a gun at a gun store in McHenry.
The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday to Second Amendment Sports, 3705 West Elm Street, for a report of a person shot.
Officers arrived and found a victim who had been shot in the calf.
A medical helicopter was initially placed on standby but canceled.
Paramedics transported him to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment.
McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Ashley O’Herron said the victim, an employee of the store, was cleaning and working with a gun at the time of the incident.
The gun was accidentally discharged, O’Herron said, adding that the incident was not suspicious in nature.
The condition of the victim, who is in his 20s and a resident of Antioch, was not known.
O’Herron said no charges are currently being sought by the police department.
