A Harvard man is accused of striking two young children, ages 4 and 5, in their face and body multiple times, leaving them with visible injuries, in McHenry County.
Kory L. Myerson, 34, of Harvard, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child and four counts of domestic battery.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Myerson battered a child under the age of 13, who is a family member, around 8:40 a.m. Saturday.
The complaint said Myerson allegedly used his hands to strike a child in the face multiple times.
The child suffered bruising and swelling to the left eye, forehead, right cheek and head.
Myerson also allegedly struck a second child numerous times on the face and left leg, the complaint said.
The child suffered bruising, swelling and redness to the face and leg.
The complaint said Myerson was yelling at the second victim while striking them in the face and leg.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident, which occurred at Myerson’s residence in the 6200 block of Hickory Street in unincorporated Harvard.
The Harvard Fire Protection District also responded to evaluate the children, who were ages 4 and 5.
Deputies arrested Myerson and transported him to the McHenry County Jail.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Myerson pending trial but then later sought to withdraw it.
McHenry County Judge Carl Metz released Myerson from custody and ordered him to have no contact with the two children or their residence and not possess weapons.
Myerson is set to appear in court again on January 14 for a status of preliminary hearing.
