Two suspects were taken into custody after fleeing on foot from a retail theft at a store in Lake in the Hills, prompting a lockdown at a nearby high school.
Administration from Jacobs High School in Algonquin sent a message to parents about the incident Monday afternoon.
Jacobs High School briefly entered a shelter-in-place from approximately 2 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday as a “precautionary measure” due to police activity around the school.
“Please know there was no threat or incident inside Jacobs High School, and the shelter in place was implemented as a precautionary measure per a recommendation from the Algonquin Police Department,” administration from the school said.
All school activities resumed as normally scheduled following the incident.
Lake in the Hills Police Department Public Information Officer Amanda Johnson said a retail theft occurred at Walgreens at Algonquin Road and Randall Road.
Officers responding arrested two suspects who fled southbound from the corner of the intersection, Johnson said.
Court documents said the suspects were connected to multiple retail thefts in which approximately $2,150 worth of items were stolen but recovered.
