A bicyclist was left injured and transported to the hospital after a crash involving a police car in Cary Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Three Oaks Road and Silver Lake Road in Cary.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said a collision occurred involving a Cary police squad and a bicycle.

The adult male bicyclist suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Naydenoff said the officer involved was uninjured.

The bicyclist was riding southbound on the sidewalk on the east side of Silver Lake Road, Naydenoff said.

The officer was turning northbound onto Silver Lake Road from westbound Three Oaks Road.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate because it involved a Cary police squad, Naydenoff said.

No citations were issued and the officer was not responding to a call at the time of the crash.
