‘Chicago Med’ is expected to film scenes for the emergency services television show at a property in Prairie Grove and along Gracy Road in the village next month.

The Prairie Grove Village Board discussed the matter last week during a board meeting.

The board voted to pass a motion to allow Universal Television and Chicago Med to use Gracy Road and the village’s public works parking lot for filming.

The TV show has begun scouting properties on Gracy Road for potential filming locations.

The art department could begin work on the property in the first week of January. Gracy Road will remain open during the work.

In addition to filming on the private property, the show will also be filming a driving scene on Gracy Road.

The scene involves an emergency room doctor driving in the rural area at night, according to Chicago Med Assistant Location Manager Dustin Schoenfeld.

He sideswipes a car, which he was unable to see due to the darkness, that was pulled over on the side of the road.

The doctor gets out of the car to assess the damage and notices no one inside the other vehicle, Schoenfeld said.

He walks into the field to find that the driver of the vehicle has fallen into a hole adjacent to the vehicle. The doctor then goes into emergency mode to try and rescue the other driver.

Schoenfeld said rescue crews then arrive on the scene and proceed to help rescue the person in the hole.

Schoenfeld said that the majority of the scene will be filmed on private property but picture car vehicles will be parked on Gracy Road in front of the set.

“The idea is that as rescuers begin to extricate the victims, emergency vehicles, news vans, and on lookers remain on the road while the accident from the night before remains in evidence in the background,” Schoenfeld said.

To achieve the scene involving vehicles and onlookers being present, it will require a full closure on Gracy Road from Route 31 to 3517 West Gracy Road.

Filming is tentatively set to take place on January 8-10. The full closure would be put in place for approximately 48 hours.

The TV show will be paying the Village of Prairie Grove for officers to perform traffic control during the road closure.
