Matthew K. Hoff, 31, of McHenry.

A McHenry man allegedly ran away from sheriff’s deputies and resisted arrest during a traffic stop in McHenry County after he was accused of selling drugs.

Matthew K. Hoff, 31, of McHenry, was charged with manufacturing or delivery of 15-100 grams of cocaine, possession of 15-100 grams of cocaine and two counts of resisting a peace officer.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said McHenry County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop around 1:10 p.m. Monday.

Hoff fled on foot from the traffic stop, the complaint said.

The complaint said Hoff also resisted arrest by pushing and pulling away from deputies when they tried to place him under arrest.

Hoff was found in possession of 15-100 grams of a substance containing cocaine and had the intent to deliver, the complaint said.

Court documents said the white chunky substance recovered tested positive for the presumption of cocaine.

The amount was approximately 28 grams and was beyond personal use, court documents said.

Prosecutors said that someone else was driving Hoff around while he was selling narcotics.

Hoff was also on pre-trial release at the time of the incident for a prior drug arrest that occurred less than three months prior.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Hoff pending trial in the McHenry County Jail.

McHenry County Judge Carl Metz granted the petition after saying that no conditions of release could ensure the safety of the community. “The court finds the defendant is a real and present threat to the community,” Metz said.

The judge also said that Hoff would not follow any conditions of release as he was already on pre-trial release conditions in his prior case.
