A driver was arrested after police say he crashed into an antique store in Antioch, damaging the front of the building, while driving under the influence.

The Antioch Police Department and Antioch Fire Department responded around 12:30 a.m. last Monday to Great Lakes Antiques Boutique, 1615 Main St in Antioch, for a report of a car into the building.

Police officials said officers arrived and found a vehicle crash involving a car that struck the building.

An investigation revealed the driver was traveling eastbound on Beach Grove Road at the intersection Main Street.

The driver failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and continued traveling eastbound before striking the building.

The driver, a 23-year-old Round Lake Beach resident, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Antioch Deputy Police Chief Norm Johnson said the driver admitted to drinking and completed field sobriety testing that indicated he was impaired.

The driver, who remained at the scene, was the sole occupant of the car, Johnson said.

He was evaluated by paramedics and declined transported to the hospital.

The driver was released with a future court date and the vehicle was towed.

A board-up service responded to secure the building and the building department was requested to evaluate the structure.

Great Lakes Antiques Boutique said the business has since been repaired and is reopen for customers.
