A 19-year-old man from Zion died after he was wounded in a shooting in Waukegan Sunday evening, authorities said.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 5:30 p.m. Sunday to the area of South Park Avenue and Water Street for a report of a shooting.
Officers were seen throughout the area investigating, with crime scene tape set up around the intersection near the South Park International convenience store.
Police were also seen on Washington Street at West Street.
Paramedics transported a victim to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.
Newton said the victim, a 19-year-old Zion man, suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced in the hospital’s emergency room.
An autopsy was completed on the man on Monday morning. His identity has not been released yet.
According to fire department radio traffic, a second person was possibly shot in the incident as well and two ambulances were called to the scene.
Police officials said Monday they would release details on the case but as of Tuesday, no information had been released.
