A woman is accused of ranting about radio frequencies, disturbing other people inside a store, and punching her elderly mother in the face at the T.J. Maxx in Crystal Lake Sunday.

Malourdes E. Lorenzo, 44, of Oakwood Hills, was charged with aggravated battery of a person over 60, two counts of domestic battery and disorderly conduct.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Lorenzo was at the T.J. Maxx, 5764 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

She alarmed and disturbed others by “purposefully walking” behind a T.J. Maxx employee where she started yelling and screaming in the store about others conspiring against her, the complaint said.

The complaint said Lorenzo also struck her mother in the right side of her face with a closed fist in the entryway to the store.

The victim had a red mark on her which she said was caused by Lorenzo striking her, the complaint said.

Lorenzo also pushed the victim, a 72-year-old, during the incident, the complaint said.

Prosecutors said Lorenzo was ranting about radio frequencies and talking to a store employee, which prompted them to call 911.

Officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department responded and arrested Lorenzo. She was transported to the McHenry County Jail.

McHenry County Judge Carl Metz granted a petition to detain Lorenzo pending trial filed by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The judge said Lorenzo poses a real and present threat to her mother and that no conditions can mitigate her risk.

“The court is concerned that given the mental health condition that any orders set will not be adhered to,” Metz said.
