Sarah E. Onufer, 30, of Libertyville.

A woman allegedly attempted to flee from officers into a garage and then struck an officer and resisted arrest following a traffic stop in Libertyville, officials said.

Sarah E. Onufer, 30, of Libertyville, was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, driving under the influence, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and speeding.

Officers with the Libertyville Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 200 block of Peterson Road on December 17.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Kailey Hopkins said an officer running stationary radar spotted a white Toyota speeding.

The vehicle was traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.

The driver, later identified as Onufer, refused to stop once the traffic stop was attempted and drove for approximately 500 feet, Hopkins said.

Onufer pulled into a driveway and officers told her to remain in her car.

She refused by yelling “no” and began running into a house saying she needed to get inside, Hopkins said.

Hopkins said Onufer attempted to shut the garage door on the officer.

The officer grabbed the woman to take her into custody and she struck the officer in the arm, Hopkins said.

Once Onufer was in custody, she continued pulling away and screaming as officers took her to a squad car.

Hopkins said Onufer continued resisting once arriving at the police department. She was reportedly acting erratically and nonsensical.

She was suspected to be under the influence of cannabis, Hopkins said.

The charges against Onufer are non-detainable and Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim released her following a First Appearance Court hearing.

The judge placed her on the highest level of pre-trial services monitoring with no drugs or alcohol and random testing.
