Two people and a dog were displaced after a fire at a townhome in McHenry on the same street where another townhome fire occurred last month.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 1:20 p.m. Monday to the 1000 block of Armistead Lane in McHenry for a report of a structure fire.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ryan Mastandrea said crews arrived in six minutes to find smoke showing from a residence.

Light smoke was visible from the garage of a two-story, multi-family home.

All residents had safely evacuated the building prior to the fire department’s arrival, Mastandrea said.

A bystander reportedly used a fire extinguisher to help contain the fire before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters found a small fire inside the garage that had spread into the crawlspace.

Mastandrea said crews deployed a pressurized water extinguisher and a hose line to extinguish the remaining fire.

A search of the home was conducted to ensure that all occupants were accounted for.

The fire was declared under control within 10 minutes, Mastandrea said. There were no resident or firefighter injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.

Mastandrea said the residence is considered uninhabitable due to a broken water pipe.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

A neighbor reported a young woman, her relative and a dog were displaced in the incident.

The fire occurred on the same block as a two-alarm fire that broke out on November 1 and left a townhome and two cars heavily damaged.
