Officials say a woman was transported to the hospital after she suffered multiple injuries during an attack and robbery at a gas station in Antioch.

The Antioch Police Department was dispatched on October 22 to a well-being check.

A friend called to report the victim had been hit on the head and robbed the night before on October 21, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Colleen McConnell.

Officers learned from the victim that she was robbed of her phone at the Dharni Gas and Food – Shell, 830 Main Street in Antioch.

The woman said she was with a man when Timothy D. Kane, 53, of Zion, arrived on a motorcycle, McConnell said.

She reported Kane began attacking her.

He pulled her hair, strangled her around her throat and ripped her phone out of her hand, McConnell said.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

She had a contusion on her forehead, lacerations to the back of her head and bruises and cuts on her arms and thighs. She also had injuries to her neck and reported she was in extreme pain.

Video surveillance showed Kane walking to the gas station entrance with the victim’s purse after she could be heard screaming, McConnell said.

McConnell said Kane fled the gas station with the victim’s purse and phone.

Officers learned Kane was messaging people through the stolen phone, McConnell said.

Detectives collected additional surveillance which led to them identifying the registration of the motorcycle.

The victim was previously friends with Kane’s former fiancé. She said she had been texting Kane and met with him to purchase crack cocaine for her neighbor, McConnell said.

The victim said the situation escalated when she was short on the amount of money needed.

McConnell said Kane was on parole at the time of the robbery for a retail theft. He had been released from a five-year sentence in prison in April 2023.

Kane was also on parole out of Wisconsin for a drug offense and has numerous other criminal convictions.

Kane was charged on November 7 with robbery, two counts of theft, battery causing bodily harm and battery physical contact.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Kane pending trial after his arrest earlier this month.

Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim granted the petition following a detention hearing.

Kane is scheduled to appear in court again on January 7 for a preliminary hearing.
