A Prairie Grove man has been charged with kidnapping a woman in a truck while armed with a gun and battering her in McHenry County, court records show.
Nicholas B. Cammarata, 46, of Prairie Grove, was charged with aggravated kidnapping with a firearm, kidnapping by force or threat, aggravated unlawful restraint, unlawful restraint and three counts of domestic battery.
A grand jury indictment said Cammarata on September 10 used force or threat of imminent force when he carried a woman from one place to another in Prairie Grove.
Cammarata intended to secretly confine the woman against her will, the indictment said.
The indictment said Cammarata threatened the woman to get into a truck and remain there while he drove the vehicle and was armed with a firearm.
Cammarata also allegedly pushed the victim out of a trailer, causing her to fall two feet and suffer a bruised tailbone.
The indictment said Cammarata additionally grabbed the victim by her neck while pushing her.
The relationship between the two is unknown but court documents said the victim was a family or household member.
Cammarata was arrested by the Prairie Grove Police Department seven days after the incident but was only charged initially with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Cammarata pending trial but it was denied by McHenry County Judge Christopher Harmon.
The charges were upgraded by the grand jury earlier this month and the misdemeanor case was dismissed.
The most serious charge, aggravated kidnapping, is a Class X felony, which typically carries up to 30 years in prison but the charges come with the possibility of a 15-year sentencing enhancement.
Cammarata remains on pre-trial release on a GPS monitor with orders to have no contact with the victim or a two-mile radius around her residence.
He is set to appear in court again on January 8 for an arraignment hearing.
