Alex Mora, 43, of Round Lake Beach.

A Round Lake Beach man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a young girl, which prosecutors said was over the span of several years.

Alex Mora, 43, of Round Lake Beach, was charged in December 2022 with eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Kelse Banks said a child, who is under 13, disclosed information to her counselor in early December 2022 about being sexually assaulted.

An interview was then conducted at the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center.

The child reported that Mora, who is a family member, had sexually assaulted her since she was eight years old.

The most recent occurrence happened on December 11, 2022, when Mora came into the girl’s room while she was on her bed, Banks said.

Mora committed sex acts on the child, who tried to stop the man but he continued.

The child provided a detailed description to investigators of what had occurred.

The victim had also detailed previous recent nights where similar actions occurred.

Mora admitted to detectives that he had gone into the child’s room on December 11, 2022, and committed certain acts.

The case was investigated by the Round Lake Beach Police Department and a judge ordered Mora held on a $1 million bond.

Court records show Mora entered into a negotiated plea deal with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office last month.

He pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, in exchange for a 16-year and 6-month sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).

He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release and will receive 731 days of credit for time spent in the Lake County Jail awaiting trial.
