
A Marengo man has been charged with sexually assaulting and abusing three children, some as young as five years old, when he was a teenager in McHenry County.
Randall L. Cartwright, 21, of Marengo, was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
A criminal complaint alleges Cartwright between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2018, sexually assaulted a child in McHenry County.
Cartwright was 13-15 years old and the victim was 7-9 during the timeframe of the alleged incident.
The complaint said Cartwright committed multiple acts of sexual conduct on the victim.
The complaint also said Cartwright committed an act of sexual conduct on a second victim between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2019.
Cartwright was 14-16 years old and the victim was 5-7 during the timeframe of the alleged incident.
The complaint also said Cartwright committed two acts of sexual conduct on a third victim between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2019.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office investigated the case and brought the charges against Cartwright on December 11.
An arrest warrant was issued and Cartwright was taken into custody on the warrant on December 27.
Prosecutors filed a petition to detain Cartwright pending trial but McHenry County Judge Carl Metz denied the petition and released Cartwright.
Cartwright is scheduled to appear in court again on January 31 for a status of preliminary hearing.
The most serious charge is aggravated criminal sexual assault, which is a Class X felony that carries 30 years in prison, along with a 10-year sentence enhancement.
