One person was seriously injured and flown to the hospital after a head-on crash that left three other people hospitalized in Lake in the Hills Saturday afternoon.

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 2:29 p.m. Saturday to Algonquin Road and Lakewood Road in Lake in the Hills for a report of a vehicle crash.

Fire crews arrived to find a two-vehicle, head-on crash with heavy front damage to both vehicles, fire officials said.

The incident was upgraded to bring additional ambulances to the scene.

Paramedics transported four people to the hospital for treatment.

One of the victims, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where a LifeNet medical helicopter landed, fire officials said.

The helicopter airlifted the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.

Fire crews remained on the scene for approximately an hour to manage patient care and assist with the crash cleanup.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
