Jacques Miller, 45, of Zion.

A man, who was wanted for allegedly battering a woman, was found with a loaded and stolen gun after officers responding to a 911 call tracked him down in Zion.

Jacques Miller, 45, of Zion, was charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, a Class 4 felony, and three counts of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

The Zion Police Department responded around 2:15 a.m. on November 24 to a 911 call for a domestic battery incident.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich said officers spoke with the female victim, who reported she was previously in a relationship with Miller.

The two were still living together as Miller was attempting to find another place to live.

He came home around 1:30 a.m. and went into the victim’s bedroom and started a verbal altercation, Vukovich said.

Vukovich said Miller struck the victim with a cell phone, resulting in a laceration above her eye, and grabbed her by the arms to prevent her from moving.

Miller fled the residence and the woman called the police, Vukovich said. An arrest warrant was issued on November 25.

The Zion Police Department was called on December 22 for an unwanted subject call at a residence.

Vukovich said the caller, who was the victim in the domestic battery case, reported Miller was outside her house and she knew he had an active warrant.

Officers located Miller approximately a block away on a bike path and confirmed he had an active warrant.

A black Ruger semi-automatic handgun with a laser sight was located in a backpack Miller was carrying, Vukovich said.

The gun was loaded and reported stolen out of Chicago. Vukovich said Miller admitted the gun was his and he bought it a few years ago in Chicago.

Miller does not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card or concealed carry license.

At the time, Miller was on pre-trial release for resisting a peace officer and obstructing identification in Zion on August 21.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed petitions to detain Miller in both of the cases.

Lake County Judge James Newman granted the petitions during a detention hearing on December 26 after agreeing with prosecutors that Miller poses a threat to the victim in the domestic case.

Miller is scheduled to appear in court again on January 16.
