A non-profit organization has rescued a swan, named George, from a lake in Lake County after it suffered an injury and had been unable to fly for over a month.

Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation said it rescued a swan from Hasting’s Lake in Lake Villa Township on Tuesday.

The organization is a licensed non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center based in Barrington that cares for injured and orphaned wildlife.

“We are thrilled to report that we rescued the injured swan at Hasting’s Lake today,” the organization said.

The rescue had been on hold until weather and ice conditions that would allow for it to occur safely.

The mute swan, dubbed “George” by some of the residents, had suffered an injury to its right wing.

The injury prevented the swan from flying.

George was unable to leave Hasting’s Lake even when the lake iced over in late November.
