Authorities say a fire broke out at a commercial business in Grayslake and was quickly brought under control by firefighters early Tuesday morning.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 3:34 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Route 83 and Hook Drive in Round Lake Beach for a report of a structure fire.

Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ian Mandigo said responding fire crews located the fire near Route 83 and Shorewood Road in Grayslake.

An auto repair business, housed in a large pole barn, was on fire.

Firefighters found flames showing from the eaves of the pole barn, Mandigo said.

Firefighters quickly located the seat of the fire and conducted an offensive interior fire attack.

Mandigo said the fire was brought under control within minutes.

Firefighters conducted extensive overhaul operations — ensuring hidden fires were extinguished — due to the location of the fire in the eaves.

The building sustained minor to moderate damage as a result of the fire, Mandigo said.

The building did not have a fire protection system. No injuries were reported to firefighters or people at the location.

The Round Lake, Wauconda, Gurnee, Fox Lake, Antioch and Libertyville fire departments assisted at the scene and covered Grayslake fire stations.

Mandigo said the cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious, remains under investigation by the Grayslake Fire Protection District.
