Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest line bound for McHenry County were experiencing delays Tuesday after reports of a person walking on the train tracks.
The Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department and Metra Police Department responded around 3:35 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Olmsted Avenue and Oliphant Avenue in Chicago.
A male subject was reported to be walking on the Union Pacific Northwest line tracks near the Edison Park station, according to a 911 dispatch.
All train traffic in the area was halted. Officers located the man nearby at Northwest Highway and Oshkosh Avenue.
He was transported by ambulance to Ascension Resurrection Hospital for an evaluation, according to emergency radio traffic.
Metra reported around 4 p.m. that Train #633, scheduled to arrive in McHenry at 4:50 p.m., was stopped near Edison Park due to the police activity.
Train #635, scheduled to arrive in Des Plaines at 4:10 p.m., was stopped near Jefferson Park.
Metra later reported Train #633 was operating 25-30 minutes behind schedule due to the incident and Train #635 was operating 15-20 minutes behind schedule.
Train #633 was not operating past the Pingree Road station in Crystal Lake due to the police activity. Train #643 was accommodating customers.
Metra reported Train #637, scheduled to arrive at Harvard at 5:38 p.m., was operating 15-20 minutes behind schedule.
