A small plane crashed into a building, landing on its nose and causing a fuel spill, while taxiing at Dacy Airport near Harvard Wednesday afternoon.
The Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday to Dacy Airport, 22207 Airport Road in unincorporated Harvard, for a report of a plane crash.
A single-engine Cessna 182H veered off the taxiway and struck a hangar at the airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The pilot was the sole occupant on board the plane at the time, the FAA said.
Harvard Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said no injuries were reported.
The hangar sustained damage to one of the corners of the structure.
The Cessna initially came to rest on its nose but crews uprighted the plane to mitigate a fuel spill, Vucha said.
Vucha said the adult male pilot self-extricated from the plane prior to emergency personnel arriving.
The sheriff’s office set up crime scene tape around the plane and building while investigating.
Records show the Cessna was built in 1965 and is registered to a 77-year-old Harvard man who has a private pilot license.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were notified about the incident.
The FAA said an investigation is underway into the cause of the crash. An NTSB spokesperson said the agency did not have any information to report.
