An adult was transported to the hospital after a car crashed into the rear of a stopped school bus in Waukegan Thursday morning, officials said.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 8:49 a.m. Thursday to the area of Golf Road and Pine Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived to find a car that had struck the rear of a school bus. Eastbound Golf Road was shut down by police.
The red car sustained significant front-end damage. Four ambulances were requested to the scene.
Waukegan Fire Marshal Todd Zupec said the bus was stopped when the car rear-ended it.
A bystander said the bus was picking up students at the time of the crash.
An adult from the bus suffered minor injuries, Zupec said.
Paramedics transported them to a local hospital for treatment.
Waukegan School District 60 Director of Communications Nicholas Alatzakis said none of the students on the bus were injured.
A second bus was dispatched to transfer the students from the damaged bus to school, Alatzakis said.
