Firefighters helped rescue a pet from a home after a fire broke out in a kitchen on the Naval Station Great Lakes base in Lake County.

The Great Lakes Fire Department said on Wednesday that the department received a call for a possible structure fire on the naval base last week.

AC1902, Quint 1932, Truck 1931, Engine 1911 and Ambulance 1942 responded to the kitchen fire call along with the North Chicago Police Department.

Officials said that the quick actions of the firefighters led to the fire being contained to the kitchen and prevented further damage to the home.

“Our team’s efficiency and professionalism ensured the situation was brought under control,” the fire department said.

Firefighters searched the residence and rescued a frightened animal from the home. All residents were safe.

“We are proud of the teamwork and dedication demonstrated by our crew,” the fire department said.
