A heavy police response was sent after a driver fled on foot following a two-vehicle crash along Route 47 in Huntley last week, officials said.

The Huntley Police Department asked the public around 7 p.m. on January 7 to avoid the area of Route 47 and Mill Street.

Officials said a large police presence was sent and people in the area should use caution or consider alternate routes.

Huntley Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keane said Tuesday that the incident stemmed from a hit-and-run vehicle crash.

The two-vehicle crash occurred just south of Mill Street on Route 47.

The driver of one of the cars fled. No injuries were reported in the second car.

Keane said the heavy police response was due to the weather conditions and not knowing if the driver who fled suffered injuries.

The area was wooded and included ponds. Police used drones and canines in the search, Keane said.

The police department said the incident was cleared around 9:25 p.m. that evening.

Keane said the suspect involved was later identified and an investigation remains ongoing.
