Residents were displaced after a fire fully engulfed a house in Fox Lake Sunday morning and left firefighters battling the fire in frigid single-digit temperatures.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 8:46 a.m. Sunday to the 50 block of Highview Avenue in Fox Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Fire officials said crews arrived to find a single-family home fully involved in flames and smoke.
Residents were home at the time but they escaped without injury.
Fire crews worked for approximately two and a half to three hours to extinguish the fire, fire officials said.
The entire house was damaged by the fire and deemed uninhabitable.
Cars in the garage and on the driveway were also damaged in the fire, which broke out when temperatures were around 8 degrees outside.
Fire officials said a search of the home resulted in no one being located inside.
No injuries were reported to firefighters or residents, fire officials said. It is unknown if any pets were injured.
The Round Lake, McHenry, Spring Grove, Antioch and Wauconda fire departments assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation and a damage estimate was not available.
Investigators remained on the scene into Sunday afternoon investigating where the fire began and what caused it.
