UPDATE: The child has been located, according to police.
Police are actively searching for a child who disappeared Saturday after saying she was going to her neighbor’s home in Johnsburg and never returned.
The Johnsburg Police Department said late Sunday morning they are actively investigating a missing juvenile case.
Abby Anderson, 15, left her home in the 3600 block of Fillmore Road in Johnsburg around 7:10 p.m. Saturday.
Police said Anderson does not have a cell phone or any other way of contacting anyone electronically.
She is described as being 5-foot-2, 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anderson, a sophomore at Johnsburg High School, was last seen wearing a light blue jacket, black shoes, black jacket, glasses and carrying a grocery bag of personal items.
A family friend said the girl left her home and said she was going to visit a neighbor but never returned.
Anderson does not have her phone or wallet with her, the family friend said.
The girl’s mother said police are talking to her friends but have not located her. “I am not doing well with this, my heart is breaking,” the mother said.
Anyone with information on Anderson’s location is asked to contact the Johnsburg Police Department at 815-385-6024.
