Two workers were hospitalized with burn injuries following an industrial accident at a plastics manufacturing plant in Richmond Friday morning.

The Richmond Township Fire Protection District and Richmond Police Department were called around 7:33 a.m. Friday to Ex-Tech Plastics, 11413 North Burlington Road in Richmond.

Fire officials said a 911 call was received for a report of a victim with burns.

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District was requested due to Richmond fire crews being on another call.

A Spring Grove ambulance arrived at the business at 7:46 a.m. and found two adult male victims. A second ambulance was called to the scene.

The men suffered burns from an “industrial incident” that was not a fire, fire officials said.

According to emergency radio traffic, the burns were from molten plastic.

Both victims were conscious, alert and stable at the scene.

Both men were transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for treatment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and the incident is currently under investigation.
