A Lindenhurst man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who he had been in a position of trust and authority over in McHenry County.
Zackery D. Olson, 35, of Lindenhurst, was charged in February 2023 with seven counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child and eight counts of criminal sexual assault of a child.
The charges stem from the sexual assault and abuse of a 14-year-old girl, who is a family member of Olson.
Prosecutors said Olson had been in a position of trust and authority over the victim during the course of the abuse.
The assaults spanned several years from 2019 to 2023 and occurred in Crystal Lake.
Court records show Olson pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.
McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt accepted the plea agreement on Thursday and sentenced Olson to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) pursuant to the plea.
Olson will be required to serve 85% of his sentence and will be subject to three years to life of mandatory supervised release.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese said the victim’s courage was “paramount to seeing that justice was served” in the case.
The Crystal Lake Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County assisted in the investigation.
