A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he was left trapped and unresponsive in a head-on crash that also left a woman trapped and injured near Spring Grove.

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:45 p.m. Friday to the area of Main Street and Villa Vista in unincorporated Spring Grove for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos said the crash occurred directly in front of Fox Lake Fire Station #4, 911 Main Street, at the curve in the roadway.

He was unconscious and not breathing and paramedics were performing lifesaving measures on him, Damos said. It is unknown whether he survived after arriving at the hospital.

Main Street was shut down between Cuneo Drive and State Park Road for several hours.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
