
Firefighters battled two separate house fires hours apart in Libertyville, including one that left a family pet injured and a home with major damage, fire officials said.
The Libertyville Fire Department responded around 10:18 a.m. Saturday to the 700 block of Liberty Bell Lane in Libertyville.
Libertyville Fire Chief Michael Pakosta said an initial call reported an appliance on fire inside the residence.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home.
The incident was upgraded to a structure fire response and crews worked to extinguish the fire, Pakosta said.
The fire was extinguished over 35 minutes later by 10:55 a.m. Major fire damage occurred inside the residence.
A family pet was transported to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment, Pakosta said. No residents or firefighters were injured.
The Libertyville Police Department secured the scene and several area fire departments responded to the call.
The Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Grayslake, Lake Bluff and Lake Forest fire departments assisted.
Fire investigators from Grayslake, Lake Forest, Round Lake, Long Grove and Mundelein responded.
The Lake Villa and Newport fire departments covered Libertyville’s fire stations. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
The Libertyville Fire Department later responded around 7 a.m. Sunday to the 1300 block of Virginia Avenue in Libertyville for a report of a structure fire.
Pakosta said firefighters reported an active fire on the side of the home by the garage.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes of receiving the call.
Pakosta said no residents or firefighters were injured. The Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Mundelein and North Chicago fire departments assisted.
Damage to the home was isolated to the garage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
