The coroner has released the identities of two men who died after they were found wounded in separate but linked shootings on the same residential street in Waukegan Sunday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7:20 p.m. Sunday to the 1900 block of West Greenwood Avenue for a report of a shooting.
Officers and paramedics arrived to find a man in his 20s who had been shot and was bleeding.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified him as Leobardo Diaz, 28, of Waukegan.
Diaz was unconscious and not breathing and officers began performing CPR, according to fire department radio traffic.
Paramedics arrived and rushed Diaz to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead, Banek said.
Police later located a second person who had been shot down the street from the first scene in the 1700 block of West Greenwood Avenue.
Paramedics arrived just after 8 p.m. and confirmed the man in his 30s was dead at the scene, Banek said.
Banek identified him as Fredi Aquilar Carrasco, 31, of Waukegan.
Aquilar Carrasco was discovered outside in the yard of a home.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital and the home to take possession of both men.
An autopsy performed Monday showed Diaz died as a result of a gunshot wound to the back, Banek said.
An autopsy also performed Monday on Aquilar Carrasco showed he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, Banek said.
The Waukegan Police Department Major Crime Scene Unit responded to the incident.
Sources said that while the two shootings were separate, they were a result of the same incident.
The coroner’s office has not released whether they have ruled the manner of death yet for both men.
The Waukegan Police Department has not released the circumstances of the case but said information is expected to be released at some point.
